The Idaho Department For Motor Vehicles (DFMV) is to cease its practice of using duplicate number plates for different types of road vehicles.
DFMV spokesman Paul Williams announced the department willstart to use unique number plates during August or July. The practise of using the same number plates on different vehicles has long been opposed by the police.
Police officers in Idaho have been complaing that recording the number plates along with the vehicle type creates extra paper work, Williams added that duplicate number plates have caused problems elsewhere.
Williams said the DFMV also is also going to outlaw the under-sized letters used on vanity number plates. Idaho police requested the specialty number plates be made easier to read using their automatic number plate recognition system.
