Hi-Tech Checks Snare Drivers

A number of arrests have been made and vehicles seized near Swindon in a joint operation by Wiltshire Police and other forces, using cutting-edge technology.

Number plate recognition technology was used in the operation, which took place just off junction 15 of the M4.

Drivers whose number plates were flagged up by the system were pulled off the road and their vehicles subjected to vigorous checks.

A combination of eight police forces carried out the crackdown, alongside representatives from organisations such as the DVLA, the Environment Agency, immigration and HM Revenue and Customs.

Police hope that with increasingly sophisticated technology at their disposal, such as the number plate recognition systems used, these crackdowns will become a regular sight on our roads.
