Members of the Indiana Department of Vehicle Licensing committee meet on a monthly basis to keep profanities off vanity number plates.
The members meet on the first Monday of every month to evaluate applications for personalised number plates to make sure they do not contain concealed swear-words or references to drugs, sex and racism.
Jeanie Moorland, who heads the committee, said a computer software alerts them of obvious banned combinations of letters and numbers before the committee looks over the number plates that are a bit more ambiguous.
"Our job is to look at the combination from joe public's point of view" Moorland said. "We try to keep an open mind when looking at the number plates but we have a responsibility to make sure people are not offended by what is on them."
