Number Plate Operation Nets Dozens Of Drivers

82 drivers in Hertfordshire have been arrested recently for a variety of offenses, caught by police during a two-month operation specifically targetting criminal drivers.

Hertfordshire Constabulary's central area roads tactical team used an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system to find motorists involved in criminal behaviour including vehicle theft and driving without a licence.

Main roads around the borough, including the M25, the A1 and the A41, were targetted in the operation which ran throughout February and March.

ANPR reads a car's number plates and checks computer databases including the DVLA and the police national computer to check if the vehicle is in any way suspicious.
