New design for number plates

New number plates will be introduced for all vehicles in Qatar within weeks, according to the press officer Ahmed Suliman from the Road Vehicle Agency.

The existing number plates were designed more than 15 years ago, said Suliman.

An order has already been placed with a specialised company for manufacturing the number plates and a design has been chosen.

"It's in line with regional standards in number plates and also to ensure the plates are readable with new technology." he continued.

Suliman said the new number plates were much clearer and would make it easier to identify vehicles from longer distances.

"The new number plates are also theft resistant so stealing and reusing them on another vehicles will be impossible" he said.
