Blue Letter number Plates Return

The Dakota Division for Motor Vehicle Licensing announced that once the current stock of red letter number plates are used up, number plate letters and numbers will be printed in blue.

The red letters have been used on the state’s number plates for the past four years in an effort to assist with the recall of old or worn plates. No red letter number plates currently in stock will be destroyed prior to the changeover. About 19,500 remaining red letter number plates are expected to be supplied between now and the end of November 2009.

Regular personalised and specialty personalised number plates are now printed using blue ink when they are ordered. The change was made without additional cost to MVL or to Make Good Enterprises, who make the plates. The return to blue number plates was made at the request of motor vehicle customers and the police who find the blue plates easier to read at a distance.
