DVLA Number Plate Auction

The DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) held their latest auction of personalised number plates last month, auctioning a number of highly prized number plates to members of the public.

The biggest success on the day was the sale of the number plate reading WE57 HAM which was sold for a staggering 45,000 to a very enthusiastic West Ham Football Club supporter. This sale beat the previous record for a football related number plate as AR53 NAL fetched 36,000 in 2004.

The next highest sale of the day was the registration plate 1 DAM which sold for 25000 to an anonymous internet bidder followed by 78 G for 16000. These short, exclusive plates are always popular choices for people looking to customise their vehicles. Some of the more attractive novelty number numbers were COO 1L selling for 7,500 , GOA 1S at 7,100 and CLU 8S at 8,700.

The total income for the number plate auction was in excess of 4 million. The next DVLA auction planned is planned for early December at Tankersley manor, Barnsley. This is likely to be the last number plate auction of the year although there have been occasional special sales at Christmas where small numbers of very exclusive plates have been auctioned for huge amounts.
