Number plate theft rises

ARANA HILLS: Thieves have been targeting number plates in the Arana Hills district during February, police said.

Brisbane West District Crime Prevention Unit Sergeant Kerrie Haines said thieves had stolen number plates from vehicles at several homes in Ashgrove, Kenmore and The Gap, as well as Arana Hills.

She said number plates had also been taken from vehicles around local shopping centres.

Sgt Haines said there were a number of strategies residents could use to prevent theft of number plates.

"Park your vehicle in a well-lit, highly visible area, preferably a supervised car park, rather than on the street," she said.

"Park your vehicle inside your garage or yard and lock the gate or door."

"Use non-reversible one-way screws to attach number plates to the vehicle."
