RMV taking applications for license plate lottery

The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles is taking applications for its annual number plates lottery.

The RMV said 169 coveted low number plates will be available. Some of the prized combinations are 7A, 3333, V36 and X99.

"Maybe itís because Massachusetts is the home of the first number plate in the country or simply because our drivers just love specialty number plates, but every year the plate lottery generates thousands of applicants" Registrar Rachel Kaprielian said in a news release.

Applications are available in all RMV branches, or you can downloaded online.

All entries must be mailed and postmarked by Aug. 10. Postcard entries will not be accepted. Only one entry per applicant will be accepted.

The registry said winners who do not register their vehicle with their winning lottery number plates by Dec. 31, 2009, will automatically forfeit their plates. All forfeited number plates will be offered to a list of 25 alternate winners who will be chosen at the drawing.

The drawing will be held at the Larz Anderson Museum in Brookline at a date to be announced. Applicants should check the registry Web site for official drawing details and a complete list of this yearís low number plates.
