Faith-based group sues state to get specialty number plate

LOUISVILLE, KY - The pro-family group Reclaiming Our Culture Kentuckiana, or ROCK, is suing over specialty number plates.

The Kentucky Transportation Department denied ROCK's request for number plates with the slogan "In God We Trust", claiming ROCK can't advance religion through slogans on number plates. But ROCK says the plates would be specialty plates and people would make donations when they bought it.

"I think it ought to be troubling for people across Kentucky if we're gonna have a situation in the system that says everyone else can apply, but no one that has any faith based component to them can apply for number plates," said Bryan Wickens, president of ROCK.

According to ROCK, Kentucky has 77 specialty number plates, 16 of which are faith based.

Indiana has "In God We Trust" number plates. It has been the subject of a lawsuit by the American Civil Liberties Union.
